Issues with MQM settled, says Malik

ISLAMABAD: Differences with the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) – the Pakistan People’s Party’s ally in Sindh as well as the Centre – have been settled, Minister for Interior Rehman Malik said on Friday.

“A few issues that were left will be settled soon as the two parties have agreed in principle to continue consultations for the resolution of all outstanding disputes,” Malik told reporters.

Malik, who held talks with an MQM delegation in Dubai, said bilateral negotiations concluded successfully, with most of the issues resolved.

Meanwhile, Ports and Shipping Minister Babar Khan Ghauri said MQM’s opposition to the National Reconciliation Ordinance should not be construed as antagonism against the PPP-led government.

“The talks only focused on the challenges being faced by Pakistan and the current national political scenario, “ Ghauri said regarding the talks between the two parties in Dubai.

He said views were also exchanged on issues including the sugar and power crisis. app
